Aston Martin unveils color-shifting 'Andromeda Red' livery for Monaco GP amid Honda cooling concerns

Aston Martin debuts a stunning iridescent 'Andromeda Red' livery for Monaco, while Honda flags cooling and energy management as critical challenges for the street circuit.

Aston Martin has revealed a special 'Andromeda Red' livery for this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix, featuring a color-shifting iridescent finish designed in collaboration with principal partner Maaden. The design, part of the 'From Rock to Racetrack' campaign, symbolizes the transformation of raw minerals into high-performance engineering. Meanwhile, Honda's trackside chief Shintaro Orihara has highlighted cooling and energy management as key hurdles for the team on the tight street circuit.

Why it matters:

Monaco demands a unique technical approach, and Aston Martin's livery serves as a visual statement of its partnership with Maaden. However, the real focus will be on how the AMR26 handles the Principality's low-speed corners and traffic conditions, with Honda identifying specific weaknesses that could impact performance.

The details:

  • Livery design: The AMR26 will sport a colour-shifting iridescent wrap that changes appearance under different lighting and viewing angles. The hexagonal graphic theme, inspired by Maaden's branding, creates a visual bridge between the traditional Racing Green, carbon fibre, and the new finish. Traditional gradients couldn't be printed on the wrap, so the hex pattern mimics color fade.
  • Honda's concerns: Orihara explained that Monaco's countless low-speed corners require optimized energy deployment. Simulator work has already been done to fine-tune drivability, but cooling remains a major worry. Running in traffic for extended periods can push temperatures up, demanding close cooperation between Honda and Aston Martin to balance performance and reliability.
  • Technical adjustments: The team has tailored power unit preparation for the circuit, focusing on efficiency and driver confidence. The unique layout means even small gains in energy management could make a significant difference.

What's next:

Aston Martin will roll out the special livery for practice sessions on Friday, with the aim of scoring points in a race that often rewards strategic execution over raw pace. Honda's track-side engineering will be critical to managing the thermal and energy demands over 78 laps.
