F1 Extends Sky Deal Through 2034 in UK/Ireland, Apple TV Remains US-Only

Formula 1 has renewed its historic partnership with Sky in the UK, Ireland, and Italy into the next decade, while Apple TV's exclusive US broadcasting rights stay domestic for now.

Formula 1 has locked in a multi-year extension of its long-standing broadcast partnership with Sky, keeping the sport on the British pay-TV giant across the UK, Ireland, and Italy well into the next decade. Meanwhile, Apple TV's role as F1's new US broadcaster remains limited to American audiences for the foreseeable future.

Why it matters:

The deal underscores F1's commitment to traditional linear broadcasting in its core European markets even as streaming platforms reshape media rights globally. Sky's continued investment provides financial stability and high production value, while the US streaming experiment with Apple TV remains a separate, domestic-focused strategy.

The details:

  • Sky UK & Ireland will broadcast every session live until at least 2034 – covering practice, qualifying, Sprint races, and Grands Prix across Sky Sports and the NOW streaming platform.
  • Sky Italia retains rights until 2032, with live coverage on Sky Sport F1 and selected free-to-air races on TV8 including the Italian Grand Prix.
  • Free-to-air highlights of every race weekend remain available in the UK, and the British Grand Prix continues to be shown live on free television.
  • The package also includes rights for Formula 2, Formula 3, F1 Academy, and Porsche Supercup.
  • Stefano Domenicali, F1 President & CEO, praised Sky as a "dedicated, trusted, and passionate partner" and thanked the team for getting the deal across the line.
  • Dana Strong, Group CEO Sky, highlighted the role of Sky's storytelling in supporting F1's growth, especially with rising British talent and emerging stars like Kimi Antonelli.

What's next:

  • Apple TV's US-only deal remains unchanged – there are no immediate plans to expand its reach to other markets, meaning Sky's European dominance is secure for the long haul.
  • The extension aligns F1's broadcast future with the 2026 regulation changes, ensuring continuity as the sport enters a new technical era.
  • Expect Sky to continue investing in innovative coverage, including augmented reality and enhanced data visualizations, to keep viewers engaged through the next decade.
