Jack Doohan Set for 24 Hours of Le Mans Debut with Nielsen Racing
Alpine F1 reserve Jack Doohan will make his Le Mans debut in June, joining Nielsen Racing's LMP2 entry as part of his expanded European Le Mans Series program.
Jack Doohan is set to make his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut this June, joining Nielsen Racing's LMP2 squad for the iconic endurance race. The Alpine F1 reserve driver will expand his European Le Mans Series program to the FIA World Endurance Championship, sharing the #24 car with Edward Pearson and David Heinemeier Hansson.
Why it matters:
Doohan's Le Mans debut adds another chapter to his growing endurance racing résumé while maintaining his F1 commitments. With Alpine's 2026 power unit development underway, the timing allows him to sharpen racecraft across different disciplines — a move that echoes the paths taken by several current F1 drivers who have balanced sportscar outings.
The details:
- The provisional entry list for the 2026 race features 62 cars split across Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3 classes.
- LMP2 field will contain 19 cars, with Nielsen Racing fielding Doohan alongside Heinemeier Hansson and Pearson.
- Australian connection: United Autosports' McLaren 720S GT3 has been removed from the reserve list, dashing Australian Garnett Patterson's hopes for a debut. Father-son duo Stephen and Brenton Grove are notable absentees after their 2025 appearance with Iron Lynx.
- Kiwi trio: Three New Zealanders are entered, all in Hypercar. Brendon Hartley returns with Toyota in the #8 car alongside Buemi and Hirakawa. Earl Bamber drives for Cadillac satellite team Jota in the #38 V-Series.R with Bourdais and Aitken. Nick Cassidy makes his Hypercar debut with Peugeot, partnering Di Resta and Vandoorne in the #93 9X8.
- Bronze driver Martin Berry returns with Iron Lynx in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 alongside Maxime Martin and Rui Andrade.
What's next:
The 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place on June 13-14. Doohan's full ELMS schedule with Nielsen Racing will serve as preparation for the main event, giving the 23-year-old valuable track time in LMP2 machinery before tackling the Circuit de la Sarthe.
