Lando Norris Admits Drivers Are 'Blindsided' on Business Side, Backs Hamilton's Call for More Say
Lando Norris acknowledges F1 drivers lack insight into commercial factors behind regulations, but fully supports Lewis Hamilton's push for drivers to have a formal seat at the rule-making table.
Lando Norris has admitted that Formula 1 drivers are often “blindsided” when it comes to the commercial and business realities that shape the sport's regulations. While drivers are unanimous in wanting cars that allow flat-out racing and close competition, Norris acknowledged their proposed solutions may not always be the most practical.
Why it matters:
The call for drivers to have a greater voice in F1's decision-making process has intensified. Lewis Hamilton recently demanded that drivers be given a “seat at the table” alongside teams, F1, and the FIA. Norris' comments reveal both the drivers' unity and their self-awareness about their own limitations.
The details:
- Norris, speaking to media including RacingNews365, said: “From first place to last place, we all want the same thing. We all just want to go flat out, race closely — that's the show the fans want.”
- The GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers' Association) is aligned on wanting more influence, but Norris stressed drivers accept they are “blindsided to the externals from a business side of things — how teams work, how all of that is organised.”
- He added: “We have to accept that we're maybe not always completely correct, but I think the majority of things we think of as drivers… is a win-win for us and for the fans.”
- Norris clarified that drivers are not seeking to issue demands, but rather to give collective feedback in an official setting: “It's more of just a louder voice… persuasion in directions into the future.”
What's next:
While no formal change has been announced, Norris confirmed the drivers are actively working on increasing their input. With Hamilton pushing the issue publicly and the GPDA united, the pressure on F1 and the FIA to grant drivers a more structured role continues to build.
