Verstappen's Nürburgring 24H Debut Faces Major Weather Disruption

Cold and rainy conditions threaten Max Verstappen's first Nürburgring 24 Hours appearance, with temperatures near 1°C and high rain probability on race day.

Max Verstappen's highly anticipated debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours is set to be a battle against the elements. Current weather forecasts predict cold, rainy conditions throughout the weekend, with temperatures dropping close to 1°C overnight and a significant chance of rain disrupting key qualifying sessions and the race itself.

Why it matters:

The weather adds an extra layer of difficulty to Verstappen's first-ever 24-hour endurance race. Known for his mastery in wet conditions in Formula 1, the four-time world champion will now face the unique challenges of the Nordschleife in cold, slippery conditions—a true test of adaptability and endurance.

The details:

  • Thursday (Qualifying): Overcast skies with intermittent rain showers and gusty winds. Daytime temperature around 7°C (50% rain probability). Overnight drops to near 1°C (24% rain).
  • Friday (Qualifying): Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Daytime high 9°C (40% rain). Overnight cloudy, 3°C (24% rain).
  • Saturday (Race Start): Cool and mostly cloudy, with rain showers possible early. Temperature peaks at 9°C (30% rain). Race start at 15:00 local time. Night: partly cloudy, 2°C (15% rain).
  • Sunday (Race Finish): Slightly better conditions, partly cloudy turning cloudy. High of 13°C, low rain probability at 13%.

What's next:

The full schedule is set: Thursday afternoon (13:15-15:15) and evening (20:00-23:30) qualifying. Friday features four sessions including Top Qualifying from 08:50 to 14:35. Saturday morning warm-up (10:00-11:00) precedes formation lap at 14:40 and race start at 15:00. The 24-hour marathon concludes on Sunday afternoon, with Verstappen hoping the weather cooperates for a clean run.
