Antonelli Denies Verstappen Monaco Pole as Leclerc Hits Wall

Kimi Antonelli snatched Monaco pole by 0.043s from Max Verstappen after Charles Leclerc hit the wall on his final qualifying lap. The result gives the championship leader a huge advantage at a track where overtaking is notoriously difficult.

Kimi Antonelli snatched Monaco Grand Prix pole from Max Verstappen by 0.043s as Ferrari's Charles Leclerc crashed on his final lap. The Mercedes championship leader clocked 1m12.051s to edge the Red Bull driver in a tense Q3 session in Monte Carlo.

Antonelli's pole puts him in the strongest possible position at a circuit where overtaking is nearly impossible. With title rival George Russell sixth, he can extend his championship lead. For pre-session favorite Ferrari, a second-row lockout was a painful letdown.

Antonelli and Verstappen sat 0.001s apart after their first Q3 runs, setting up a tense finale. Leclerc briefly went fastest with an early final lap, only for Verstappen and then Antonelli to beat him. Leclerc then clipped the barrier at Tabac, dropping to fourth behind teammate Lewis Hamilton in third. Isack Hadjar took fifth for Red Bull, while Russell lagged 0.394s behind his teammate in sixth. McLaren struggled, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris seventh and eighth.

Overtaking at Monaco is notoriously difficult, so Sunday's race will likely be decided at the start. Antonelli will aim to convert pole into victory from the clean side, while Verstappen hunts an opening into Sainte Devote. Ferrari must hope strategy or incidents can vault Hamilton and Leclerc into contention.
