Oliver Bearman crash brings out Monaco red flag
Oliver Bearman crashed his Haas in the closing minutes of Monaco FP3, bringing out a red flag and forcing his team into a race against time before qualifying. The rookie lost control at Turn 3 after bottoming out on a bump, ending his session with an apology.
Oliver Bearman brought out the red flag in the final 15 minutes of Monaco’s
third practice session after losing control at Turn 3 and hitting the barriers
rear-first. The heavy impact caused significant damage to the rear of his Haas,
leaving the team’s mechanics in a race against time to make repairs before
qualifying.
### Why it matters
On the tight streets of Monte Carlo, qualifying performance effectively decides
the race more than anywhere else on the F1 calendar. With overtaking all but
impossible, grid position is everything, and losing precious track time before
the session puts Bearman at a serious disadvantage. The crash also piles extra
pressure on the rookie, who was still working to build confidence around the
unforgiving walls of Monaco.
### The details
* Bearman had been running in 13th place and was pushing to improve his lap time before the incident occurred.
* The rookie lost the rear of his Haas through Turn 3, bottoming out on a bump before sliding into the barrier.
* He immediately explained the cause over team radio: “Sorry guys, it’s the fucking bottoming. I totally lost it on the bump, I’m so sorry.”
* The shunt caused terminal rear damage and was only the second such incident of the weekend, following Isack Hadjar’s crash at Turn 16 on Friday.
### What’s next
Haas faces a tense few hours as mechanics rush to repair the damaged floor and
rear assembly ahead of qualifying. Any missed running will be especially costly
at Monaco, where drivers rely heavily on rhythm and incremental improvements to
find the limit. Bearman must now shake off the error quickly if he is to produce
a clean qualifying performance and avoid starting out of position on one of
Formula 1’s most demanding circuits.
