Silverstone Rejoins WEC Calendar in 2027 After Eight-Year Absence

Silverstone rejoins the WEC calendar in 2027 after an eight-year absence driven by the pandemic and rising costs. The British Grand Prix venue will host round three of a nine-race season starting in Qatar.

Silverstone rejoins the World Endurance Championship calendar in 2027, hosting round three on April 25 at the British Grand Prix venue. The Northamptonshire circuit has been absent since 2019 after the COVID-19 pandemic, Brexit complications, and rising operational costs forced it off the schedule.

Why it matters:

The return restores top-tier endurance racing to British soil after an eight-year gap and gives WEC another marquee European fixture. Silverstone's place on the calendar also reinforces the circuit's standing as a versatile host capable of accommodating Formula 1 and sportscar racing at the highest level.

The details:

  • Silverstone will run as a six-hour race on April 25, 2027, sandwiched between Imola on April 11 and Spa-Francorchamps on May 15.
  • The 2027 season opens March 27 with the 1,812km Qatar race and features nine rounds, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 12–13.
  • The calendar stretches across four continents, with stops in São Paulo on July 11, Austin on September 12, Fuji on September 26, and the season finale in Bahrain on November 6.
  • The circuit last appeared in 2019 before falling victim to post-Brexit logistical headaches, pandemic-related calendar disruption, and prohibitive hosting fees.

What's next:

With Silverstone back on the grid, the WEC is sharpening its identity as a truly global championship while maintaining its European backbone. The 2027 schedule blends heritage and expansion, and the British round is expected to draw strong crowds as the series continues building momentum in the Hypercar era.
