Aston Martin fans handed disappointing update over 2026 upgrades

Aston Martin's 2026 season has been a disaster with zero points, and the team confirms major upgrades won't arrive until summer. Mike Krack emphasizes protecting drivers, while Stroll remains optimistic about the long-term project.

Aston Martin has endured a nightmare start to the 2026 Formula 1 season, sitting alongside Cadillac as the only teams yet to score a point after four races. The Silverstone outfit is plagued by a lack of performance and serious reliability issues, and Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack has now confirmed that substantial upgrades will not arrive until the summer break.

Why it matters:

After the massive hype surrounding Adrian Newey's arrival, expectations for the AMR26 were sky-high. Instead, Aston Martin has been stuck at the back of the grid. Delaying major developments until mid-season could further damage their chances of climbing the standings, especially as rivals continue to push forward. The team's long-term project is being tested early.

The details:

  • Krack on driver protection: Speaking in Montreal, Krack stressed the need to shield drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll from repeated questions about the car's struggles. "They accumulate that frustration being at the back of the field," he said.
  • No big upgrades yet: The team is only introducing "detail changes in several areas that are not so visible." Larger packages are expected "around the summer."
  • Reliability issues: Beyond slow pace, Aston Martin has suffered mechanical failures that have compounded the points drought.

What's next:

Despite the grim outlook, Lance Stroll remains confident ahead of his home Canadian Grand Prix. He pointed to the team's new wind tunnel and simulator at the AMR Technology Campus as proof that the foundations are being laid. Stroll insisted the current struggles have not shaken his belief in the project, calling difficult moments a true test of commitment. If the summer upgrades deliver, Aston Martin could still recover some ground, but time is running short to salvage the season.
