Red Bull Hires Ferrari Veteran Gino Rosato as Consultant
Red Bull has appointed longtime Ferrari figure Gino Rosato as a consultant, bolstering its technical structure after a wave of key departures. The move leverages Rosato's deep ties to Max Verstappen and decades of paddock experience.
Red Bull has moved to strengthen its technical and operational structure by bringing in long-serving Ferrari figure Gino Rosato as a consultant, effective immediately. Rosato, who spent nearly three decades at Maranello from the mid-1990s through 2023, will attend around 8 to 10 grands prix in his new role, starting with this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.
Why it matters:
The signing comes after a turbulent period for Red Bull, which has seen a significant number of key figures depart. Adrian Newey left in 2024, followed by sporting director Jonathan Wheatley, team principal Christian Horner, and Helmut Marko. Chief race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase is set to leave by 2028 at the latest. Rosato's arrival signals Red Bull's push to rebuild its infrastructure around new team principal Laurent Mekies.
The details:
- Rosato's personal ties to the Red Bull camp run deep: he has a strong relationship with Max Verstappen and his father Jos.
- During his time at Ferrari, he worked closely with Michael Schumacher and has a notably close bond with Kimi Räikkönen, serving as godfather to Räikkönen's son Robin.
- Rosato joins on a freelance basis and is not expected to wear team gear, but his paddock connections are extensive.
- Red Bull has also promoted Ben Waterhouse to chief performance and design engineer, and hired Andrea Landi as head of performance, as part of its ongoing rebuild.
What's next:
Rosato's experience and network could help Red Bull stabilize its operations and attract further talent. With the 2026 regulations on the horizon, a strong technical and organizational foundation is critical. The team appears to be methodically filling the gaps left by its recent exodus, aiming to maintain its competitive edge in the ultra-tight midfield battle of 2025.
